things i wish i could say
I need to release this. I need to get it off of my chest because I'm fucking pissed right now. Maybe not even pissed. I don't know.
I'm aggravated.
I'm confused.
I'm antsy.
I'm worried.
I'm completely baffled.
I want to address the people who feel the need to comment on how looting is wrong. Not because looting is wrong, because I completely agree. Material destruction is not the resolution I seek. The corruption we see, the unfairness that's felt, the audacity! That's what I seek to destroy.
If you feel like kneeling during the national anthem was inappropriate, check your privilege.
If you feel like people saying he's not my president is wrong, check your privilege.
If you feel like it's important that everyone likes the president, check your privilege.
If you feel the need to intervene to say blue lives matter, check your privilege.
If you feel like black on black crime vs police brutality is a fight you want to have, check your privilege.
If you constantly complain about your child's curriculum but can't speak up about real-world problems, check your privilege.
If you can share a post about how you were rooting for us until the looting began, check your privilege.
If you feel like you don't have to wear a mask because your country can't tell you what to do, check your privilege.
If you feel like everyone should listen to the professionals, read the message above and don't forget to check your privilege.
If you feel like your country will go to bat for you, check your privilege.
If you feel like you would never do something like that, check your privilege.
If you feel like you can define what is and isn't a form of protesting, check your privilege.
If you feel like a president who bad-mouths into a microphone is worthy, check your privilege.
If you feel like the [dumb] shit Biden said was appalling "why would people vote for him," check your privilege.
If you've ever felt nervous being pulled over, but didn't fear for your life, check your privilege.
If you feel like it's your job to convince people to like the president, check your privilege.
If you feel like it's ok for Melania to wear that infamous jacket, check your privilege.
If you feel like you can ignore the problems around you, check your privilege.
If you feel like you don't have to teach your child about slavery just yet, check your privilege.
If you feel like this country was built of freedoms, check your privilege.
This country was mistakenly stumbled upon because some man was too dumb to know what was happening. After settling in and making friends it was stolen from the Natives who lived here. We marginalized them in their own got damn home. And we got tired of listening to someone rule us from miles away, we went to war and destroyed property.
Let's get another thing straight while I'm at it. People meant to protect us overstepping boundaries is nothing new. Please see the Quartering Act. I'm about to go all out of order, so just brace yourselves. I don't really have it in me to keep up.
We had all this stolen land and tricked slaves into getting on these shitty ships to take us to a "better place." We were stacked up like decks of cards, dying left and right, bodies were not removed, and we were forced to piss and shit where we were. There was no one to check on our mental state, just the physical state. To make sure we were well enough to be worth something in trading. And we worked to build this fucking country for people who didn't give us rights on purpose. Seperated from our families, not able to read or right, whipped for insolence. And then we were finally free, they wouldn't even listen to the precious government they loved so dearly. The kept us until our freedoms were damn-near hand-delivered. And what the fuck were we supposed to do then? Now we're out, but we're not equal. We're less than. We're not even a counterpart. We're spare parts in a society we built! We were good enough to make you rich, but now that you have to do for yourself, we're not good enough to see the light of a new day. We were beat, lynched, ran out of town, bullied, etc.
We fought for every single inalienable right you came out of the womb with. So check your fucking privilege.
And I don't hate the people, I hate the ignorance. I especially hate the lackadaisical ignorance. LEARN SOMETHING. EDUCATE YOURSELF. PEOPLE ARE SCREAMING IN ORDER TO BE HEARD.
Escalation. Things that go unchecked will always escalate. It's the natural order.
High blood pressure can't go unchecked because?
A stalker can't go unchecked because?
A misbehaving child can't go unchecked because?
A verbally abusive relationship can't go unchecked because?
Bad test scores can't go unchecked because?
Your vehicle's oil can't go unchecked because?
The bonfire can't go unchecked because?
Check your privilege. And not just white people. Everyone.
If you are alive and on this Earth, you have a privilege that has been afforded to you.
What would a child do in this situation? If they tried to get their parents attention but they were always on the phone. Always busy, not concerned, always putting it off. If you deny that child long enough, they will scream to get attention. They will dead leg you to get attention. They will have an all out fit to get attention. Think about that. And if you're saying "not me," then ask yourself how long are you willing to go unheard. And when you grow tired of that, what are you willing to do in order to be heard?
Everyone is different. Everyone will always have an opinion, and this one is mine. These are the things I wish I could say to the people I come across daily.
The thing that really fucking pissed me off is this. I know people and have seen people who were outraged when Kapernick knelt during the national anthem. The fucking president called him a son of a bitch. And was praised for it. People took to the tweets and post destroying jerseys, shoes, any fan gear, protesting his supporters, just talking shit 24-7. This as a peaceful protest. THIS WAS A PEACEFUL PROTEST THAT A VET RECOMMENDED. But it's not good, it's disrespectful, it's dishonorable, it's just not right. To that I say, check your mother fucking privilege. Feel how you feel, but don't condemn someone for speaking their mind in a way that doesn't hurt anyone. Did it hurt your feelings? Did it make you uncomfortable? Did it physically harm you? Are you emotionally scarred?
As much as I would like to say fuck your feelings, I know you have a right to feel how you feel. But's it's not about you. Take what ever uncomfortable feelings you have and actually address them. Not with something inflammatory, not with snarky remarks.
I saw someone use their platform to peacefully protest and this country said a big whopping NOPE to him and anyone else who joined in. It's a song. A song. It's a song. And they used that privilege to say that song is worth more than whatever he's protesting.
Listen to the people with reason who have something to say or prepare for the shit storm the disregarded voices will deliver.
